Redevelopment provides our community with the means to improve
the physical and economic conditions within a designated area by
investing in development projects that would otherwise be too
risky and cost prohibitive. The Modesto Redevelopment Agency has
a number of programs and incentives to help them carry out their
goals and objectives.
The Redevelopment Agency's authority extends over
approximately 2,000 acres, as represented in the
Project Area Map.
This target area encompasses the downtown Modesto area, east
along Scenic Drive, west along Paradise Road and further west
over to Carpenter Road and up to Modesto Junior College West
Campus.
Redevelopment activities are governed by the "Redevelopment
Agency of the City of Modesto" (RDA). A Citizens Redevelopment
Advisory Commission, which operates in an advisory capacity to the
RDA, also reviews and considers redevelopment activities.
The primary goal of Redevelopment in Modesto is to
facilitate private economic investment in the Project Area by working
with developers to mitigate investment risk. This Public-Private
partnership provides the basic foundation for raising property values
in the Project Area. This increased valuation brings additional
tax increment revenue into the Redevelopment Agency's budget that
can then be used to fund additional projects.
